Guildford - Character Home Renovation
This transformation of a 1950s cottage proves that you don’t have to demolish and start again to create a terrific dwelling. Materials and colours were sympathetic to the period features of the area and has resulted in a home that is a joy to live in.
The renovation involved -
-
Carport conversion - We retained the existing layout of the main cottage and transformed the carport into a games room to gain additional living area.
-
Exterior facelift - We restored the existing concrete roof tiles, restored broken lead lights, replaced asbestos with weatherboard cladding.
-
Bathroom and Kitchen - In the bathroom we installed new cabinets, basins, taps and shower screen, in the kitchen we installed stone bench tops, mini-orb splash back, new appliances and we salvaged and resprayed the cabinet doors in a fresh modern colour.
-
Bedrooms - We installed Built in robes with mirrored sliding doors.
-
Ceilings - We replaced the original plaster glass ceilings and salvaged and reinstalled the original ornate ceiling roses.
-
Electrics - We found original 1950s wiring so we had no choice but to rewire the entire home for safety. We used this opportunity to install additional power points, a security system and air-conditioning.
-
Landscaping - We paved the driveway and entertainment areas. We installed a brick fence and picket infills and gates along the front boundary for privacy which reflects the same character and street appeal of Guildford.
